My Mac Freezes When I Connect an HDMI Display

The cause is unknown, but sometimes when I connect a display to my Mac using an HDMI cable, it freezes.

In my case, it is reproducible. If I launch a browser (either Chrome or Firefox) and then connect the HDMI display, it freezes.

Environment

・macOS High Sierra

・"Displays have separate Spaces" option is OFF

There is no problem if I connect the HDMI cable without launching a browser.

It freezes when I launch a browser and then connect the HDMI cable.

I imagine that it might be trying to restore the browser window position and freezing because it can't.

The definitive solution is unknown.
